What’s Happening at Robins Square?
$20 Million Mixed-Use Development Continues to Take Shape in Robins
ROBINS, Iowa — Construction is steadily advancing at Robins Square, a $20 million mixed-use development that promises to bring new shopping, dining, recreation and hospitality opportunities to one of Eastern Iowa’s fastest-growing communities.
The project, being developed by Integrity Companies and developer Kent Backen, is expected to become a regional destination while expanding the commercial amenities available to Robins residents.
The first two retail buildings are scheduled for completion in Spring of 2027 and will provide space for up to eight small retail businesses.
For Backen, the project represents both a business investment and a personal commitment to the community.
“I’ve lived in Robins for many years and it is such a wonderful small community that is worth investing in,” Backen said.
Construction in 2027 is also planned around a 16,500-square-foot Event Center, which will feature a restaurant, four indoor pickleball courts and flexible event space for community gatherings, weddings and special events. The facility is expected to provide year-round recreational opportunities while creating a venue for local celebrations, corporate events and community activities.
“With all the sports activity at Tuma Soccer Complex and Marion’s Prospect Meadows, those families are looking for retail spaces, activity areas, and our restaurants, close to their athletic complexes,” Backen said.
City leaders believe the development will not only add new amenities for residents but also strengthen Robins’ commercial tax base, create new jobs and attract additional private investment. Its location just minutes from Interstate 380, Cedar Rapids and Marion positions Robins Square to serve both the local community and visitors from throughout Eastern Iowa.
“REDI is proud to support the commercial growth taking shape at Robins Square,” said Ken Paxton, REDI Economic Development Director. “The development activity we’re seeing this fall builds on our momentum, and we’ll continue to champion this exciting growth in Robins as Robins Square moves toward new openings in 2027.”
As construction continues and tenants are announced, Robins Square is expected to become a centerpiece of the city’s continued growth and long-term economic development.
